HOSPITAL DE SANTA CREU I SANT PAU

Barcelona’s Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (of the Holy Cross and St. Paul) is one of Europe’s foremost Art Nouveau monuments. Designed by Domènech i Montaner, it stands on spacious grounds with 26 pavilions, decorated with polychrome ceramic, contain varius sections for the care of patients and stand amid beatiful gardens.

HOSPITAL DE SANTA CREU I SANT PAU There are sculptures by Pau Gargallo in the receptions. The entrance pavilion, crowned by a tower and a clock, welcomes visitors, who find themselves in the presence of an execptional architectural and sculptural ensemble.The Convalescence House are the work of the architect’s son, Pere Domenech i Roure.


HOSPITAL DE SANTA CREU I SANT PAU The hospital buildings are connected by a network of two kilometres of underground passages. They are conceived in such a way that the interior atmosphere, well ventilated and full of natural light, is much more wholesome than was that of the traditional hospitals based on medieval criteria.
