Tibidabo is the site of the Sagrado Corazon church of Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart. In 1886, when St. John Bosco, founder of the Salesian Order, visited Barcelona, he was offered the plot for the erection of a church to be dedicated to the Sacred Heart.

The architects of this edifice came to be Enric Sagnier and his son, Josep Maria Sagnier. A small oratory that still exists today was built first, bat the foundation stone of the main church was finally laid in 1902. Completed in 1961, the ensemble is formed by an Art Nouveau crypt an a Neo-Gothic church that is crowned by a monumental bronze statue of the Sacred Heart measuring seven metres tall, made by Josep Miret. A lift takes visitors to the top of the church at a height of 575 metres above sea level. From there you can take in an impressive view of the city.
