Barcelona’s entrance along Avinguda Diagonal is its most elegant. To travel along this broad stately avenue is to discover all the facets of Barcelona, from the peace and quiet of the Monastery of Pedralbes, to the avant-garde setting and modernity of the city’s skyscrapers and business districts.
At the end of Avinguda diagonal lies the University Area of Pedralbes. Its construction began in 1952 with the Faculty of Pharmacy, surrounded by the university residence halls of Sant Raimon de Penyafort and Verge de Montserrat. The construction of the Faculty of Law followed in 1958, and that of the Business Management School in 1961.
The University of Barcelona is not the orly institution of higher learning in the University Area of Pedralbes, with its 12 faculties, since some buildings of the Polytechnic University of Barcelona are located here as well.
