The House Batlló is the most celebrated building on the “Block of Discord”, it is one of the best-known works of Antony Gaudí. It is the result of the radical reform and modernization of a commmercial and residential building between party walls, typical of the Eixample district, in which Gaudí unfolded all his genius.
This structure laden with symbolism represents the advent of a new century and the metaphorical defeat of the previous century’s academicist neoclassical style at the and of a revolutionary artistic trend.
The Batlló house is the expression of an amazing conceptual freedom and an usual formal pefection. This work of Gaudí is fascinating for its extreme design, its repertory of visual solutions, its creative use of materials and colours, and its allegorical values, which captivate all those who love the fantastic, the theatrical and the vibrant. In July 2005 it was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
